Brian Strum began working in construction at an early age, along with his brother, Bruce.  They worked with and for their grandfather, (also Bruce) who was a Builder.  This hard work taught both boys the value of a solid work ethic during their formative years, along with lifelong learned construction lessons from their grandfather, and their grandmother, who functioned as the company bookkeeper.  Brian went to high school in Franklin, NC, and attended college at Mars Hill & Western Carolina University, receiving his BA and earning honor society placement.

Having been born, raised, educated and working here throughout his life, he is knowledgeable with construction practices in the WNC (Western North Carolina) region.
This includes:
Cashiers, Highlands, Lake Toxaway, Sapphire, Glenville, Scaly Mtn., Cullowhee, Sylva, Franklin, Bryson City, Nantahala and surrounding areasHis family’s background in construction & development continued, eventually leading to Brian establishing his own construction firm, (Hearthstone Senior Housing, Inc.), now in its 15th year, with Brian as the Co-Owner & Operations Manager. Brian has been involved with dozens of construction projects, both residential and commercial.  Brian is married and has a son.  His wife, who graduated Summa Cum Laude from Western Carolina University, is pursuing a masters degree in accounting and is assisting manage an area assisted living facility.  They enjoy a stable hard-working life in the WNC area.

Brian also has a background in real estate & development.  His work includes projects as petite as a 900 SF single family home to an ambitious 40+ acre residential subdivision with no amenity spared.  His work experience includes hands-on carpentry work in the field on projects, to management of overall operations of his construction company, periodic field inspections of on-going projects, coordinating with his partner and Project Manager, Robert ‘Bob’ Blauner.  Brian has often worked on projects from the conceptual phase all the way through to completion.  He coordinates well with Architects and designers, as well as home and business owners and all of the necessary Subcontractors required to successfully complete homes and buildings across WNC.

In particular, Brian prides himself at helping his Custom Mountain Homeowners and business owners achieve their dreams.  He works hard having his customers’ homes built swiftly and properly at a reasonable value.
